Granite, Quartzite, Soapstone & Marble: Choosing the Right Countertop

When it comes to kitchen countertops, each natural stone offers a unique blend of beauty and durability:

  • Granite is one of the most durable options. It’s highly resistant to heat, scratches, and stains (when sealed) and comes in a wide variety of colors and patterns.

  • Quartzite is often mistaken for marble due to its elegant veining but is much harder and more durable—similar to granite. It’s highly resistant to heat and wear but still benefits from sealing.

  • Soapstone has a smooth, matte feel and is naturally non-porous, meaning it doesn’t require sealing. It’s softer than granite and quartzite, so it can scratch, but minor marks are easy to buff out.

  • Marble is timeless and luxurious with striking veining, but it’s softer and more porous, making it more prone to stains and etching. It requires regular maintenance and sealing in a kitchen environment.

Summary

Granite & Quartzite: Best for high durability
Soapstone: Low maintenance, softer look
Marble: Elegant, but needs more care
